I did it!!

My name is Marci and I finally gave my first Toastmasters' speech. I have been petrified about speaking to an audience. It was nerve racking to get up there but I am so glad that I did. What a great feeling it was to do something I was so afraid to do and have it so well received!

|
What a positive experience Toastmasters has been for me so far. All the members are so supportive and have given me much needed encouragement. I am amazed that I am actually somewhat excited (which is HUGE for me) about my next speech.

I had always aspired to join a Toastmasters Club because of its impeccable reputation. When I came across Uptown Toastmasters Club, I instantly recognized a winner. The membership is very professional, courteous, supportive and collegial. It is located in one of the most prestigious and accessible buildings in Houston. There has not been a single meeting where I have not learned something new - ever since I joined. It makes me want to contribute at the highest level because I get caught up in the excitement that charges the atmosphere every Tuesday afternoon. I am a lifer!!

I joined Uptown Toastmasters when I started working for my current employer and I have to say it is one of the best career decisions I ever made.
|
|
|
|
Through participation in Uptown Toastmasters, I have improved my speaking skills. I am less nervous speaking publicly and I feel more at ease in front of a large audience. I also attribute my increased understanding of the importance of leadership to my participation in Uptown Toastmasters. I have served in multiple Officer roles at Uptown and with each role I have improved my professional skills such as organization and communication (both written and verbal). Because of Uptown, I now seek opportunities to lead each workday.

Uptown Toastmasters is a wonderful club where anyone can learn how to speak in public with ease and confidence. Each member is treated with absolute respect and encouraged to reach his potential in a supportive, professional environment.

Our Tuesday meetings are also a lot of fun!

I believe in the power of Toastmasters. In my 10 years in this organization, I have grown in all types of communication and leadership skills. Toastmasters has come in handy over the years to get me prepared for challenging situations in which I wanted to be clear, concise, organized and persuasive. My favorite memories include practice speeches for a lecture for my 16-year old daughter, speeches congratulating my high school and college graduates, wedding toasts, birthday roasts, employment reviews, and the list goes on. I have been able to do "lay readings" at family funerals, and I know the day is coming when I will practice a eulogy on the Club for my 90-year old Aunt.

In my mind, Toastmasters is not just for delivering speeches at conventions. It is a safe and supportive atmosphere for improving speaking skills for real life. This I believe.
